Wheelers and dealers

A big thanks goes to the MIB crew that twice a year bring together the wheelers and dealers for the Easter- and autumn Swapmeets in Aalborg. The easter one is the best as you're full of anticipation of the new season. A good few new rides show up every year in various stages of completion. I love when people have faught fiercely to get done for an event. I loved the tongue in cheek Flying A Speedster/beetle/bus racetheme. Another great display was Henrik Henriksens gorgeus type 14 ghia project. Due to power issues i didn´t get a picture of it, but I will post one later. This car is awesome!

34 days of mayhem

Remember how far your own car-project was one short month ago. I´m sure you accomplished a thing or two on it in 30 days? A pad on your back is due, as getting time to do these things can be hard. Full time job, family and other hobbies comes in to consideration. Imagine the pad on the back Søren deserves for getting this rusted out basketcase together in 34 days! Not only is the car now restored, painted and driving - its got a working homemade airride suspension, painted undercarriage and all the trimmings! I can hear you sitting by the screen in disbelief: "He´s must have had all the parts ready in stock, nicely primered and good to go". NO - parts like genuine fenders, heart taillights and pop outs were sourced within the 34 days. A decklid were sent to Norway for cabriolet vents to be punched in. As I wrote a month ago in the post "Look what the cat dragged in" Søren can turn shit into gold. Now on to your double cab, Søren!

Straight in from Pisa!

Just back from Tuscany, Italy. Not much aircooled to report about. Saw an early convertible and a Karmann Ghia Coupe. The people didn't seem to be much in to old cars all together. At noon everybody closed their small shops for a few hours, which for me seemed to be the perfect excuse for cruising. The architecture was the coolest and people were really nice. Sorry for my big ol´head getting in the picture...

5000 hits • Hunk hunk

I kind of promised a couple of female readers a treat for the 5000 hits post. After all they have to scroll past bikiniklad girls everywhere. But getting a nice young man to flex his muscles in front of a car is not that easy. Jesper Vang was the girls first choice but he turned down the generous offer! There's absolutely no pictures of a descent halfnaked man in front of wolfsburg iron to be found anywhere on the internet. I never thought my browser would have to search for words like "naughty male pin up in front of vw". So sorry girls, dont expect another hunk for 10.000!

The japanese connection

My dad just returned from the land of the rising sun. My sister and her family lives and works in Tokyo. When there he visited the world famous Flat Four hq. I was lucky enough to get him to bring home a limited edition black cherry gt steering wheel. It went straight into the Ghia. My dad took a few pictures. Little did he know, that he was standing next to some of the rarest vehicles in vw-history. Today I will be leaving for Pisa, Italy. I hope a nice vacation is in front of us. If I run into any vw-related stuff I will not let you down. See some of you in Aalborg saturday!

Track star

Took the Ghia to get the tracking right and a change from the old oil that was let in a long time ago in Poland. Now she´s ready to go! I am considering a scratchbuilt beam for her. I have to admit Jespers drives a lot smoother. I want shocks though.

Break even!

Sorry for not posting for almost a week. Work has really been busy this week and when you drive home at way past midnight everyday I think you´re excused? Well on the first day after the deadline I decided to help Jesper get his car through inspection. Jesper was a bit worried about the narrowed beam and I was concerned when she left a small amount of brake fluid on the trailer. A local mechanic (the guy I bought the 51 from) skipped lunch to help me out and let me borrow the lift. The car was approved and the inspector was very impressed with the handling of the car.

Photoshoot

A local business magazine did a story on my shop and used the bus and bike for the shoot. It gave me a much needed reason to go for a small drive even though the salt is still on the roads. Business first you know.

The only tub you'll ever see me in

The only tub you'll ever see me in, and I know its watercooled, but it beats the hell out of some of the butt-ugly buggies being created these days. I'll take a genuine empi buggy or a REAL meyers manx on period-perfect steel rims if you forced me. But whats up with the LED lights, stainless steel, rollbars the diameter of your legs and huge tires? How cool is racing duck?

We are getting old, Lubbe

Good friend Thomas Lübbe send me this picture of his beautifull razoredge. It seems everybody wants these cars nowadays? People used to ridicule me for wanting the big ghia. Maybe its the fact that we're getting older and money is not so tight as they used to be? But look in the background of the picture. Is that a wheelchair and a Porsche with dust on it? Thomas and I have been competing for some years now in two disciplines:

A: Descenting hairline
B: Getting the perfect T3 ghia

I´m so happy that we still both have a bit of hair left, when we are going to enjoy the Ghias this summer.

Get well soon, Einstein!

I hope you get well soon, cowboy.
Carefull with those sparks, man.
Wouldn´t want to hit the package
- oh no who cares now?

Stopping by

Impressions of a nice weekend. Look at those happy faces. Saturday was swapmeet day, sunday I built a speakerbox for the ghia. We need tunes when going to Hannover.

Green messenger of spring

The first sign of spring is always sound of friends Pernille and Renés bug in the driveway. René is the kind of person who you can set your clock to. When winter comes he is well prepared, with correct tires on the exact date every year. When the sound of Renés bug is heard you know its spring. We made a short cruise to check out progress on Gullers bus. Good to see you guys!

Family portrait

Saturday Guller and I gave the workshop a good cleaning. We drove all the cars out in the frontyard and gave them a quick wash. The 51 bug, being in primer, stayed in though. It is amazing how these old cars just fire right up after a long winter. I remember five years ago when I last made a family snapshot. Back then all the cars were in various stages of restoration.
Life is good!

Look what the cat dragged in!

Be sure to visit the Angora forum these days as my friend Søren has got yet another toy. As always Sørens new ride doesn´t look like much. In a few weeks everybody is gonna want it.

The seal of approval

Yesterday I took a drive to Silkeborg meeting Peter and Kurt at their workplace. Kurt had kindly searched his stock and found a ball joint for my Ghia. It turned out not to be the ball joint that caused the play in the wheel, but a worn out bolt. When that was sorted I went to get the papers for the car in my dads safe. What I hadn´t considered was that he was sitting on a airplane heading for Japan, keys in pocket! He called me in the morning to let me know where the spare was. At 9.40 am I drove the ghia to its second inspection and got it approved!

Countdown vol. 2

You´ll have to sleep yet another 54 nights before we´re going to Hannover. I hope to go there in the Ghia this year, but i must say the panelvan proved its worth on the chilly night cruise at Mel´s Diner. We fired up the old zibro and had a cosy time inside. Vanilla cokes and big smiles are a sure thing in Hannover 1.st. of may.

Get back on track

Jakob asked me to do a design for the seats of his 61 cal look project. I think this car will be really nice, when finished. Jakob has come a long way since his first car, a red 1303 many moons ago. Jakob does a lot of the work himself, which is far cooler than having proffesionals building it for you.

TV table madness

Today a huge project was finished at my work, so I had time to surf a bit again. I came across these TV tables made by some of those wacky guys from Vienna. A lot of people talk about doing these things, but somehow the female at home seems to put the project to a grinding halt. Now its home to watch the tube after a quick visit to the workshop.

Fogging hard to find in DK

I´m in the market for a set of these amber honeys. I do have perfect white ones if anyone like to trade. Please let me know.

Post nr. 100

Not to bore you with statistics, but this is post nr. 100. Some of the blogs I have seen died after less than 10 posts. Being here after 100 posts is due to your comments and the awesome amount of hits. I think there is a nice girl coming up again soon...

I know the candidate - any takers?

Thomas Winther send me this rendering of a razoredge variant. How cool would that be! I actually know of a type 34 standing in a barn with a bent rear window pillar. With 5 aircooled cars I think my old project book is kinda full, dont ya´? So if anybody wants the information let me know.

Wonder how firetrucks breed?

My good friend Richard Assel of Hübschen Bad Gluckstein spends a lot of time on the road. In the early hours of thursday he witnessed this miracle of nature. This is how firetrucks breed. Look how the latter is just about to be erected. I believe this is a dirty old male on the back of a young rather large girl. Thanks for the pic Richard.
