Period perfect (tidstypisk)

As you may allready know I own a small advertising shop. Sometimes I visit my suppliers and customers to have a cup of java and keep in contact. Today I visited good freind Marx who were printing postcards from a small Island called Samsø. A big part of my family is from that very place. So my eyes glanced quickly over the sheets of different postcards, yet to be cut. One image caught my attention instantly. i remember arriving at this harbour as a child, when visiting family. Why didn't I bring home the rows of early taxi-busses apparently always standing at the pier, waiting for customers?

Sunshine and friendly cops - only at SEMA Show

Ole "Sunshine" is a hard working man! This month business forced him to visit the SEMA show. He reluctantly took some pictures of cars and girls. Things that are of absolutely no interest to Ole, as he is a married and very serious man, right Ole?

Come home safe, you hear!

The usual suspects

In a world of Nigeria letters, trick thieves and people being robbed in their own homes this was bound to happen! A gang of smooth operators have specialized in taking advantage of weak individuals of the danish vw-scene. They are believed to be of eastern european origin. Investigators are led to this fact by the 90-style wardrobe of the suspects and the look of their crime-hardened faces. The name of the picture-file, found on an underground website, "BOHLAS" is probably a message in balkan not to mess with them. Beware of this gang if you are in the market for "Forkæler-parts" and the price seem to good to be true! The man with the hockey stick could be the elusive "Kaffe-Carsten" a master of disguise and roothless rim-polisher. Rim polishing is a rectum torture method, that is just as painfull as it sounds.

My friend René just bought a nice solid Bay bus. He called to talk about colours, wheels and stance. Busselecta is the place to go, I told him.

Visit Winthers garage

As you may have noticed I've added another link in the favourites palette. Thomas and Stefan Winther have created a blog where you can follow life in their new garage. Thomas owns the sweet early cab. Stefan owns the sepia brown notch and a type 14 ghia. As well as the aircooled cars these guys have a love for early watercoolers. I think this blog will be another one to follow.

20.000 Hits • Keep that ass in the air!

We made it! The eleven readers together have slapped this blogs ass 20.000 times! To make the next 10 thousand hits possible I would love for you to send me pictures and stories about your cars and adventures. Comments are also welcome. My e-mail adress is in the upper right corner. Don't you just love that ass in the air attitude - of the baja bug that is..

Another correct part for the split

Peter Plade finally gave in to my constant nagging about selling this sweet little airfilter for my split beetle. Peter intended to keep this one, maybe for a future project or as a trading object. Now it sits proudly on top of my N.O.S. engine. Thanks Peter.

Muchielago? Some kind of taco?

I've been searching for a replacement for the trusty old Touran my company owns. New tax rules may force me to drive something less "Commercial vehicle". My good friend Ole Solskin kindly suggested this bastard child of the Volkswagen family. Where am I to stuff that pallet of envelopes?

Memorabilia - one mans thrash...

I just ran across this picture in my stock. Have you ever thought about how much shit your family would have to haul away, sell and so on if you suddenly passed away. As more people build their own frontbeams out of old pipe this question is more pressing than ever. Of course, some of the items are quickly sold on the vw forums if your next of kin have the abilities to register to one. But what about all the "memorabilia"? One mans thrash is another mans gold. But who needs a periodperfect pedalcar this very minute? Or a 50´s era refrigerator letting out more CO2 than a chinese toy factory? Or how about the spare fuel can I just bought. Who will need that one when I go towards the light to drink vanilla coke with Dr. Porsche, Gene Berg and Aron E. Presley? Please send me a picture of something you own, really cool, but to the unknowing, completely useless.

The young ones own the will

A few weeks back I visited friend Mads Ibsgaard who were the host by a workshop-night. Mads actually lives quite nearby and I tried to gather the troops, but ended up going, just by my own company. The short trip in the panelvan made me freeze a little, and as the stereo blasted out eurodance and electronica I swallowed a coke and the fact that things are not what they used to be. Nobody goes anywhere anymore i thought to myself. Arriving at Mads place I saw this cool red car. It belonged to a young guy, who drove about the same distance as me. He had no roof, no windshield and no worries. I think everybody should look n awe at guys like this one - they may not be able to tell you how carburattors were built in the 70'ies or to rebuild semaphores, but they will keep the vw scene alive while everybody else are moving around elusive parts in a spare room of their house.

The search for the Cyclop's eye • Vol. 2

I got lucky, once again, on saturday. In the dark katakombs under the MIB head quarters the search party of Suvo Thomas, Guller, the new owner of the rat ghia and me finally found an adjustable headlight rim and a nos. headlight that could work with the third eye. I even got a new bulb in aged wrapping. Its a bit like buying the gun and the skimask before doing a bank robbery. I know I'm about to do something horrible. I'm going to drill five holes in the roof of the bus.

I've searched the net for a girl you haven't seen on all the other blogs. Its getting difficult, so this time a new beetle will have to do. It is properly washed though.

Wheels of fortune

For quite some time I've wanted to get a hold of a set of 16" stock wheels for my 51 project. Jesper Vang is one of those guys that go out of his way to help. As he said yesterday: "I did a good deed today, I'll sleep well tonight". When he said he might be able to get me what I wanted, I didn't dream of a small truckload of newly painted rims! Theres some 15"s a few 14" type 181 and both pre- and post 1950 16 inchers! Thanks a lot Jesper. If anybody need a nice set of stock wheels, give me a buzz.

Hibernation

A year ago I told you how I felt like a Submarine kadett going on a half year mission, waving goodbye to the girlfriend on the dock. I felt that way because of the season being over, and the car being locked up in my cosy workshop. Last season was the greatest! That was why it was so hard to say goodbye. This year its not so tough. We didnt go camping as much because of the house project, the ghia did win a price in Hannover in may, but was destroyed in Manntorp in june. Rain made almost every event a pest. So this year I just had enough. Its like when you where younger and you went drinking for days. As much fun that could be, a time came when you just wanted to go home and sleep. If I have to highlight one trip in the bus it would be Bugs Funny - that event was like the good old days before a profile on a vw forum made you an enthusiast. Skagen was cool to, but to many people stayed at home waiting for the pictures on the forums. On the picture you see the bus and the fastback going into hibernation with a lot of really cool cars. Its my good friend John that has let me use a bit of his space this year. The vws are going to sleep with girls called DeLorean, Lotus, Jaguar and Mercedes.

Getting back into shape • Vol 3

Peter, once again, drove by the painters to check up on the ghia. A bit of progress, but not much. The painter promised me the car back by the end of september, but somehow I dont think he is gonna make it. I still need to find a place for her for the winter. I hate the fact that the cars are gonna be scattered all over the place this winter, but thats how it is going to be.

Spies like us

One of this blog´s trusted contributers caught this rare sight on a dull afternoon in front of a Wolfsburg warehouse. We are heading for a long winter, so any contributions in form of pictures and stories will be more than welcome. On my own turf, the cars are in storage. I never tried this before. Havin' to leave my cars alone for 6 months, but 2008 is the year I will build a garage by my house that will hopefully provide everlasting cover.

Nice flat with outdoor kitchen

When we were driving to Skagen Guller and I talked about the pro's and con's of type 2 ownership. As I told him: "Once we turn on the WWII petrol light and open the cargo doors people will forget the couple of minutes faster their cars where on the trip. They are going to want a bus - NOW! The cosyness and heat was 2 pro's quickly winged off. "You can haul a shitload of stuff in a type 2". "People will come by, wondering why your food tastes better than theirs. Because you have seasoning and dressings in stock, always ready to go". Remember not if, but when, you buy that type 2, make sure you buy a driver with a memory better than mine. We forgot all that cool stuff, but three freinds with two forks will make it work. "I never really use the fork - one of the guys said". When driving home I thought to myself: "Does he just poke everything with the knife, and bite it to pieces? Maybe he was just not putting himself first?

18.000 Hits • Clothing optional

Clothing optional beyond this point. Would love to drive around naked in that cab... Not sure the rest of the world would approve?

Welcome to the family!

Henrik has just recently bought this notchback. He joined us for the Skagen event and we had a really great time. Barbeque will never be the same, once you tried to grill frozen chicken in absolute darkness. Henrik is just the kind of guy that will blend perfect into the community. I hope you all make him feel welcome. Is this low milage notch on chrome wheels the sweetest thing since 17.000-hits-girl?

OOppss! Almost forgot your price for 17.000 hits. Thomas Winther reminded me!

A 9968

Karsten from Skagen owns this awesome coralred oval. He wrote me to know if we had "shot" his ride. Off course we had.. one of the coolest rides in the convoy to Skagen. Please note that Guller did the shooting, I only did the driving and the photoshop work. All these pictures were taken with my old Canon Powershot G5. Its really slow, but does nice contrast and blending.

VWe miss Skagen! • Vol. 2

This weekend Guller and I drove the bus to the top of Denmark for the unofficial Skagen event. Nothing beats driving on a multi-lane road with a lot of other vw's. One thing I really like is that you can actually see the cool rides in their right element, and not on a piedestal. Why is it that at every other event the cars come out of nowhere in small packs of 3-5 cars. How about a GIANT cruise to Hannover, Spa, Bug-Inn or Manntorp. Remember new people get drawn into our hobby by seing something they want to be a part of - a great lifestyle! I think you shoud join us next year. Guller took the pictures. I gave them a quick photoshopping - enjoy!

Type 2's drives like boats!

We picked up this sweet american redwood kanoo a couple of days ago. Quite a sight when we where driving it home!

All grown up

One of these creatures turns 33 today.

What a birthday bang!

Remember the bithday parties of your younger years? There was usually a surprise for the guests when they showed up. The ones that stayed at home wouldn't get a piece of the cake. They would never meet Bongo the balloon-clown or join the treasure hunt. At Herning Bugs birthday there was everything a birthday should have: Cake, fun and games and the big surprise was the large amount of guests in really cool cars. I posted a few of my favourites. I wonder if there was a better birthday party some where in the world on that same day? One with more than two Fridolins on one spot! I drove my old Golden type 1 and had a rendevouz with the Winther brothers in Silkeborg. We washed the cars and had a ceremonial 1 minute park in the old "pitten" park in front of the Shell station. 15 years ago this was the closest to the cruise nights in the US.

The search for the Cyclop's eye

As you already know I bought a cyclops eye spot for my bus in the UK. Well the housing anyway.. I still need to find the old headlight itself. My chase took me and Guller to this guys collection. His an avid Opel-fan. I couldnt get all the cars in the pictures, but here's a real collector! Theres a late bay window in there that might just be for sale.

Puff the magic dragon

A friend is a stranger you have yet to meet. At Kalø I got to talk to Kasper and Mia who was vacationing in the area. They saw this cool type 3 and bought it straight away - Cool souvenir, huh? Research have shown it is of african origin and not swedish as expected. We met Kasper Mia and the rest of the "Munks" again at Bugs Funny and instantly hit it off. Hope to see you soon again even though the season is kind of over?

Yesteryear was great

Sometimes I just stand around at car-shows. I don't look at the cars. Maybe it's due to my excessive use of a certain sugar rich softdrink, but I just get in "the zone" and become a complete zombie. I do hear what people around me say though. Much like when people remember being submitted to surgery, feeling wide awake. Of course I hear ignorant people thrashing other peoples cars, or old men knowing better, stating that semaphores continued well into the seventies, just when the split frontscreen stopped? But I also hear people saying: "Wonder if they had continued that model" - "Picking up a brand new type 3 ghia would be great!" Think again.. This picture shows the succesor to the type 3 ghia, never produced. I like yesterday a lot more now, knowing how horrible tomorrow actually could look.

Goodbye to the workshop

Yesterday I started moving cars from the workshop to my home adress. It was kind of sad but still the bitter pill came with the promise of a new beginning. I loved being able to drive the three out of five cars by their own power. Remember the ghia is still at the painters. The most fun was driving the fastback. I haven't driven her for a full year. Last summer I installed an electric fuel pump and new fuel lines, and she fired right up. She used to be the one car that needed the most persuation. I also bought 3 new batteries.

Banner ad..

Anyone who spends at least some time on the internet and are remotely into Volkswagens must have seen banners from European Bug-inn everywhere. At times a bit tedious but they made their point and got in contact with everyone. At least those that could read. In my club the oildrippers we are a bit slow. We put up the flags just the day before the event. So if you are in the mood for a slightly smaller, less promoted event drop in on us this weekend. If you're on your way, leave a comment!

Envy is beige!

They say envy is green. I beg to differ! Envy is most certainly beige - it has a bit of brown on it, and an almost useless, but ever so luxurious electricly operated hole in its roof. Good friend "Hønse" brought this proof to Kalø, just as I was getting really sick of waiting for the painter. Many years ago I was a die hard skateboarder, but one summer I just lost interest. I'm absolutely horrified that this experience will kill my vw interest.

10 years of v-dubs...

If I had the time I would have found and posted pictures of people with out of fashion hairstyles and clothes in front of the VW Bugs Herning headquarters. Instead I have posted this invitation for the party. VW Bugs Herning is the bastard offspring of the now defunct but once so glorious VW klub Silkeborg. A lot of the people in the old club actually came from Herning so the birth of their own club was inevitable. Be sure to visit this event.

Heading for disaster

The last picture of a straight ghia. I haven't heard anything from the painter for a couple of weeks. I really hope to cruise the ghia for the "Skagen" event, but the project seems doomed. Boy was this a short season for the ghia... Today I'm movin out of my workshop and hopefully soon the project of my own garage will start.
